Meet the Reil Family
Reil Ranch is a family farm in the northeastern corner of South Dakota, owned and operated by the Reil family. We (Tyler and Taylor) are devoted to raising the very best grass-fed and grass-finished beef.
We hold ourselves to incredibly high standards when it comes to caring for the animals and land. These standards provide our family and many others across the states with beef we can trust, know is safe AND tastes amazing. You can read more about our practices here.
We seek to glorify God in all we do.
So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. 1 Corinthians 10:31
Our family values each and every customer and will always be honest, transparent and trustworthy with you.
We want to be continually learning and applying regenerative and sustainable practices to our operation. We know nothing in farming happens overnight, but day by day, as a family, we're working to be a part of the change that's needed in agriculture. We'd like to share with you a little bit about our background and take a look at the farm in the past and present state and give you a look into our vision for the future.
Farming has been a part of the Reil family tree for years, but we're stepping out to do things a little differently than the generations before us.
Tyler credits his love for animals and farming to his grandpa, dad and uncles and admires the work ethic, compassion and selflessness they exemplified as they raised animals and took care of the land.
When Tyler began farming, the practices he was implementing were completely conventional. He was uneducated when it came to the benefits of biodiversity and the importance of proper crop rotation. His cattle were grain fed and fattened quickly in order to make the numbers work and pay the bills.
We'll be honest, we don't like to spend much time talking about the way we operated our farm in the past, but we want to be open and transparent with you and assure you that we're committed to doing better and being a part of the change that's needed in agriculture.
Our Current Farm
Since our early farming days, we have now transitioned our herd to a 100% grass diet. The cattle in our beef program are never given any grains in their lifetime.
Our crop land consists of mainly alfalfa/grass/clover mixes and we are also working in cover crops to graze between our crop rotations.
Although our land is not there yet we are striving to add nutrients, organic matter and micro organisms through new practices such as no-till, plant diversity and grazing cover crops. Like we said before, this is a process but we're dedicated to being a part of the change, not the problem.
Our family's passion for raising cattle in a way that's better for them, the people and the land is what drives our farm forward. Which is where our mission statement comes from…
It's our mission to glorify God by providing beef that's healthy, helps others and heals our land. I want to share with you how we're following through on those three key aspects of our mission.
#1 - Beef that's healthy
Grass fed beef is packed with nutritional benefits in comparison to grain fed beef, which is one reason why our cattle are fed a strict grass only diet their entire lives. Read about the health benefits from a registered dietitian here.
#2 - Beef that help others
As a family and farm, we're on a mission to do more than just sell delicious and nutritious grass-fed beef. While we are extremely passionate about providing healthy, safe, ethically raised and homegrown beef to families and individuals, we're even more passionate about serving the Lord and showing His love. We're so excited to be partnered with Feed My Starving Children to help eliminate malnutrition and starvation in children throughout the world. Our family donates a portion of Reil Ranch's beef profits to FMSC quarterly. With your help we look forward to seeing the impact we can make by turning hunger to hope! Click here to read more.
#3 - Beef that heals our land
Although we're a young family and have a lot to learn, we promise to be continually learning and applying regenerative and sustainable practices to our operation. We know nothing in farming happens overnight, but day by day, as a family, we're working to be a part of the change that's needed in agriculture. We invite you to follow us on Facebook and Instagram to join us on our journey to raise the best beef in a better way!
At the end of the day, our goal is to supply our family and yours with the safest and healthiest beef we can produce, as well as leaving the land better than we found it when we're done.
We can't tell you how honored we are to be able to serve you and your family and feel privileged to be your personal farmers. We seek to provide you with peace of mind every time you enjoy Reil Ranch beef.
When you purchase from us you’re supporting a small family farm, humanely raised livestock, regenerative agriculture AND helping to eliminate malnutrition and starvation in children throughout the world.
We truly can't thank you enough,
Tyler and Taylor Reil
